81st Annual New Years Frostbite Regatta! (December 31st-January 1, 2012)

From Peter Beardsley:

For the past 80+ years, Manhasset Bay YC has hosted the New Years Regatta, which was the first frostbiting regatta of any kind in the U.S. It is a multi-class event, that a few years ago introduced a small Laser division. For the 2011-2012 edition, we’d like the Laser class to be a bit larger. Racing is December 31 (Saturday) and January 1 (Sunday). Some clubs have New Years regattas on Jan. 1, but for members who don’t want to wake up for that or if the weather is only good on Saturday instead of Sunday, maybe consider coming to Manhasset. Others don’t regularly frostbite their Lasers in District 7 and District 8 — it would be really helpful if you could send out a notice to members in those districts to let them know about the regatta. Housing is available on a first-come, first serve basis if someone lets event organizers know ASAP that they need a place to stay. An NOR is posted online at:

Apart from the Lasers, there are also 15-20 Interclubs that race each year, and there will likely be 8-10 Ideal 18s this year as well. There’s also a start for Penguins, though we don’t see too many of those in the area anymore. Please let me know if you have any questions — last year, the first day had air temps in the low 50s and 6-11 kts of wind — perfect day to end the calendar year.

Sincerely,
Peter Beardsley
